And after a while... I mean, how do you choose? Who gets to live? Part of life is that... well, some people have to die. My powers aren't a prescription you can get filled as needed. )

More often than not, Lissa felt older than her eighteen years lately. Since she'd become queen, there had been more put on her than there'd ever been before. Sometimes, she wished that she'd never gotten the throne...but then she quickly brushed it out of her head. Lissa was making changes that the Moroi court desperately needed, though some days it felt like they were never going to come to pass. She wasn't going to quit, but it was only natural for to feel frustrated, especially when it sometimes seemed like they would never come to pass. She needed to get rid of the law saying that there needed to be at least one other member in her family in order for to remain queen. She knew that Jill must be terrified for her life...wherever she was. Lissa didn't even know where the guardians had sent her sister to hide. Rose wouldn't tell her, and Lissa had given up trying to find out. She supposed it was for the best that way.

She still didn't even know how to feel about Jill. The younger girl was her sister, but she'd never known about her until a few months ago. She still didn't know how to feel about her father having an affair...and producing a child as a result of said affair. She had this image of her father in her mind that she couldn't get rid of. And she certainly didn't want to hate Jill because of her father's mistake. She just...didn't know how to act around the girl. Perhaps it was best that Jill was sent away. Jill probably thought that Lissa hated her. And while Lissa certainly didn't hate her, it was nice to be away from the whispers that came around whenever Jill was around. She didn't miss hearing the voices of people that didn't want to keep their opinions to themselves.

Lissa sighed and buried her head in her hands. Yes, today was one of those days where that small part of her wished that she could only worry about being a college student, not a college student and a queen. Still, she was making some progress, as slow as it was. And that had to mean something, right?

There was a knock on her door, and Lissa sat up, making all the frustration in her face go away. "Come in," she said, her voice calm and cheerful as she could make it.

The door opened, and Christian stood at the door. Lissa smiled, standing and walking over to greet her boyfriend with a hug and a kiss. "You have no idea how much seeing you makes my day a little bit brighter," she said, touching his cheek gently before leading him into the room, closing the door behind them.
